Information relating to Fluenz appointment booking (for children aged 2-4 who have received an SMS invitation)

The Department of Health are recommending again this year, the seasonal influenza programme is extended to all children aged 2, 3 and 4 years old (not under 2 or over 4 years, born on or after 01/09/2016, to, on or before 31/08/2018). This programme will be extended  and phased in over time to include other age groups. These will be to eligible children in due course by School Nurses.

This year, due to Coronavirus, we are providing this vaccination by appointment only. Please use the MyGP app to search and book a 'Fluenz - SMS INVITED CHILDREN ONLY' appointment for your child in the designated clinics. Please minimise the number of those attending the Practice (one parent with child/children). Please cancel your appointment if you, your child or any member of your household or bubble feel unwell on the appointment day. Adults must wear a face covering in the Practice. Access to the Practice is via the Crossline door by using the intercom system (to the left of the main front entrance). Please only come to the Practice just prior to the appointment time to minimize the number waiting in the Practice.

Due to Coronavirus and the Winter Flu Season, it is more important than ever to have your child vaccinated. This childhood influenza programme using the vaccine Fluenz, administered as a nasal spray, is hoped will lower the impact of influenza on young children and lower transmission to older children, adults and those in clinical risk groups at any age. Fluenz is a live vaccine, so is not suitable if your child has an egg allergy. If your child has an egg allergy, an alternative to Fluenz can be arranged, however, you will need to let us know this, to enable us to order it. Please call the Practice on 01622754898 if this is the case.

To ensure speedy throughput, the Nurses will not be available for consultation or medication requests during the vaccination appointment.

Car parking at the Practice is restricted. Please only bring your car if absolutely necessary as the car park may be busy.

If you do not wish for your child to receive the flu vaccine, please email vinemc@nhs.net to advise us.
